But you still have to change the oil filter so it doesn't get clogged and 3000 miles is safe

Dirty oil is a good result. That means that oil you use has a good washing capability. Clean oil in your engine after 3K should really scare you.

Do you tend to wash your hands 100 times a day?

Just kidding.

Sorry, but 3K is overkill. Now if I was racing it, maybe. I tend to dump my motorcycle oil after each track day. Sure I only put 125 miles on it, but at speeds of 150 and bumping the redline regular, it's a safe bet it should be changed.

Again, if 3K makes you feel happy, then 3K is what you need to do. I'm QUITE happy to change it at 7500.

This works on old muscle cars but i haven't tried it on anything new. Drain you oil then put tranny fluid in the engine and let it run for five minutes. Drain out the tranny fluid and you'll have cleaner insides. Sinced tranny fluid is oil that is thinner and as a detergent in it to kee your tranny clean, it cleans out the inside of your engine. Now don't try it on a new car you drive all over. Get a junk new car that has a running enegine in it and test it out. The tranny fluid might mess up engine internals in these newer cars.

i did this to my 5th gen more than 10K miles ago. I don't remember how much it helped or not. I also did the seafoam treatment to it not too long ago, and I do remember how nasty the oil came out afterwards.

PS. Tranny fluid will eat away at seals and such because of the detergents. You don't want to have it in there too long.

Yes it should only run for about 5 mins and then be drained immedeatly. So it works on new cars without hurting it?

I dont know about knew car, mine had somewhere around 150K+ when I did it. I don't see how it would hurt a newer car, The seals of an older car seem to be at a greater risk with that trick. Personally, I wouldn't do it again though, the seafoam works great, and is made for that. That is onw of the first little tricks I learned when I started working on my car. I was kinda scared to put the tranny fluid in it, but I went for it. It does work though. And I guess it's strong enough to really get out old junk after 150K. I recomend the seafoam though, it's great.

Anyone else hear about the oils that you change every 15K?????? More opinions on them please. But not the ones that have been posted about needing to change oil every 3K. The darkness just means that it's getting poluted with exhaust from bad rings or seals.

i've heard of a new oil thats made from nano size particles... anyways this oil is soo awesome, you supposed to change it like once every like timing belt i guess. They are still in development of this new oil, i guess the way it works is by the use of nano size ball bearings that work better than regular fluid can. there's tons of stuff about it online but here's one link

That's crazy, I definately would not change it every timing belt. But I am interested in finding out more about the one that came out that you can change every 15K.
