Can't decide...17" or 16", and pic request
Hey, I'm new here and this is my first started thread.
I am currently running around on stock wheels for my 6th gen Accord.
I have only to decide what wheels I want, but that's the hard part.
I have a certain style in mind (Motegi FF6 or DP6) and I plan on purchasing them on eBay. The only problem is choosing a size. Now, I know that 17's would be optimal, but how much different does a 16" actually look on a car? Can someone post pics of both sizes on Accords?
There is a set of 16" FF6 like I really like, but also a set of 17" DP6 that I like even more ( for considerably more money.)
I can't figure out what I want.

Most people put 18s on their 6th gen but I would go 17 because it still will give you a decent amount of side wall for those harsh road conditions and 16s in my opinion wont be big enough so go 17 you will be happier.
one more thing make sure you have a 45 offset for the rims so it wont rub but 42 will work but could rub if you carry people in your car. A good tire size for the 17" wheel would be 225 45 17 good luck.
It depends on what accord you are talking about...coupe or 4 door?
the coupe lx I have had 15 inch rims with 195/65 tires. the total width of the tires was about 25 inches. If you put bigger rims you will most likely want to put low profile tires on them. If you go with 17 inch wheels and put 205/40 tires you will actually get a smaller diameter than the stocks...something like 23.5. So you loose an 1.5 inches by going bigger because of the tires. If you want to go 17 you will have to put 205/50s to just match the stocks. If you find these tires they will most likely cost A LOT. In comparison, if you go 18's and 225/40 tires, the diameter will be 25.1 The coupe's wheel-well are huge...I think mine (2001) were 29 something accross so when I put 17's on it they looked tiny. The 4 door is probably smaller so you may be ok. I bought 17s and 2 weeks later I went back to put 18s on and drop the car 1 inch. If you are going for a sporty look, look into 18s or 17 plus a small drop that will not require a camber kit.
spend some time in www.cardomain.com and sort the rides for honda accords from 98 to 2002 or your specific year....90something percent if not more will have 18s on.
go to the toyo tires website to see what diameters you will get with a speicific tire. Remember that how "big" the overall wheel will be depends mostly on the tire so if you are concerned about the "gap" between the tire and the wheel-well edge be carefull about putting 17s on because it will actually increase. if you put /40 tires on.

I've got 18s with 225/40 tires on it, one inch drop in the rear. The front i still havent lowered the coilovers from fear of rubbing and having to raise it again. I have a 5th gen though. Personally, I would get 17s. I've been thinking about downgrading to some 17s to take off a little more weight. stay away from 16s. Thats for civics
I was tossing up between 17" and 18", but i decided on 17" so my profile wasnt so low. here in australia, you aren't allowed to increase or decrease the total diameter of the tyre, otherwise it affects your speedo which in turn affects the reading on the odometer. So in order to go with the smoother ride i chose the 17"s. Plus they are big enough as it is :P
Thanks for the input.
I have decided on 17's, with a 40 or 45 profile tire.
These will do nicely:

Of course, another eBay store is selling them brand new for almost 100$ cheaper.
Oh, and my car is an 01 Sedan LX. I want it to look sporty but conservative as well. The next step is to put some new springs, prefferably a 2" drop, on factory struts (I'm married with kids, $ has a tendency to be tight. I don't think there is much need for high end performance struts when I am the only one who is ever in my car, and I only go to and from work.)

A sedan may be ok with 17's but here are pics of a coupe with 17s arospeed rs gts with 205/40 tires. As you can see the gaps are huge. about 5 inches front and 4+ on rear. Plenty of room for 18s and/or a drop. Again, a sedan is probably smaller as far as wheel well so my only suggestion to you is MEASURE, MEASURE AND THEN MEASURE AGAIN. The car on the pic up there looks like it is deffinately dropped. Knowing what the overall tire size will be will give you an idea of how much space you will have left. Make the car look like you want it to look but make sure before you make a purchase specially on wbay since once they are mounted they will probably not take the rims back. Also, I am surprised you said that you want a conservative look but sporty and will consider a 2" drop. That drop is pretty drastic and will require a camber kit so you don't wear the inside of the tires early. That will cost more $ and if you are concerned about $ you may want to go up to a 1.5 or less drop. Also, if you put springs on you would be foolish not to upgrade to after market struts. The lower profile will compress the strut a lot and they will go fast. Besides aftermarket will prevent from you bottoming out as much. Last comment, remember that a lower ride, specially a 2" drop on a sedan or any other car will affect the ride quality. I have been in cars that are dropped and it feels like I am riding on a the flinstones car with rock tires and no shocks. Your handling will be great compared to stock but the ride will be rough. Something to think about specially if you have little ones riding or will drive the car to work or on bad roads.
BTW- The rims look great! They really look good. What color is your car? I hope they work for you.
