140,000 Miles. Can it still handle more?
I've finally paid my 1993 Honda Accord off, and I've heard odd stories about accords hitting 200K miles and such, but Im already just at 140,000. Is there anyway to add new life to this car, It was handed down to me, and it runs excellent, but I want it to last another 100,000 miles for me. Maybe a new engine? Or how can I spruce it up. I have a lot of love for this car and I want to keep it until parts are no longer available for it
Do you use synthetic oil? Although, at your mileage I'd stick with what ever you have been using, just change the oil every 3000mi and filter too.
Change all the fluids often, get a checkup every 50k mi or so from the dealer. Fix what needs fixed should run till the doors fall off?

I just sold my 1990 with 260,000 Miles on it. The thing still ran well, just needed a new water pump. It was a great car for me.
my sister has a 90 accord 4dr ex 5spd. It has 235000 miles and accelerates, handles and rides just as well my 99 accord coupe w/55000 miles. She has always done the scheduled maintenance and changed the oil & filter every 3000 miles, and fixed things as they broke(not just let things brake and not fix them until you HAVE TOO)Seriously it drives like its brand new, at this rate i would bet that she could get at least 350000 maybe 400000 or more.
200,000+ miles is not unheard of.
As the car gets older just pay attention to component failure...radiator, hoses, gaskets, pumps...shit like that. Age is an enemy for that kind of shit and can do damage to the motor if fails.
Other than that just keep up on regular maintenance.

only 140,000 on a 93? I've got 120,000 on my 99 and the thing still runs great.
one thing I've started using that has made the car ride a little bit smoother is engine restore. I'll throw in a can after every oil change, except in the winter. the stuff is pretty thick and it takes longer to warm up the car with it.
