Default Rev Limiter on a 5th Gen V6?

Yesterday as I was turning onto the highway, I decided to see where the rev limiter was on my 97 Accord V6. The redline is 6,250 rpm on the tac, but I swung it to 7,000 rpm and there was nothing holding it back. I decided to shut it down there and not press my luck. Does the 5th gen Accord V6 not have a rev limiter and how high can the 2.7 24 valve V6 safely rev?

Thanks,

Shawn

hmmm....not sure but if redline is at 6250rpm and you swung it past that your actually not making more power..
When your car is in park, step on the gas and thats when you will see the REV limiter kick in.

Well, the red on the tach starts about half way between 6,000 and 6,500. You are right, the car didn't seem to make any extra power past the indicated redline. I was just suprised that the computer didn't cut the spark or fuel delivery when I got it 6,500. My 89 Maxima cut it off at about 6,200 with a redline of 6,000. I think I will hold off on testing it.....no reason to stress an engine with 140,000 miles with unnecessary abuse. I was just curious as if there was a limiter on it and what the engine could really rev to. 6,250 seems a bit conservative to me for a Honda/Acura engine.

I have the same car.. and on hard accelerations.. the revs will be around 7000... meaning the needle will be horizontal across the dash.. but i never noticed this until i had the cold air installed, so I am unsure...

How far did it rev to before you had the cold air intake installed? In full auto, it will shift right at the redline. Also, did your cold air intake make a noticeable difference in acceleration/drivability? I am considering getting one and would like to know how much they actually help. Any input is appreciated.

I've hit mine a couple of times and I believe it was around 7200 or so. Also mine a 5th gen 4 cyl so it might be different.

I call BS. Show me a stock F-series motor (minus the Euro-R and S2000) that will hit fuel cutoff at 7200.

Note the "I believe" because I wasn't looking. All I know is that it banged off the rev limiter and I really wasn't paying attention because I had the course to worry about. Mine has a red line of 6400 and I know it went beyond that.
