Rear End Noise

Rear End Noise
Recently replaced all the discs and pads on my 99 Accord EX-L. Since that time I have noticed a tremendous amount of what I can only describe as road noise. It appears to be coming from the rear only.
It increases with increasing speed. Does not change when I shift into neutral(so not a transmission problem). So it seems to be a rolling issue associated with the tires or wheel bearings or something I haven't considered yet.
I have pulled everything apart twice to make sure I put it back together right and everything appears fine.
Is it possible that this is a rear wheel bearing issue? Are they sealed bearings or can I go in and repack or replace them?

when wheelbearings go bad, you can't miss the noise. it's a loud and annoying HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. no matter if you roll up the windows, crank the music, drive fast or slow, you'll get the noise.
i'm pretty sure they are a sealed unit and you'll have to replace the entire part, not repair it.

You were right. Replaced them both tonight. Sound is gone. They were pretty rusted out. One of the races was stuck to the shaft.
I had trouble locating a torque spec for the main nut.
Can anyone offer up a number for the torque?????????????????

$95.59 each. Install is easy.
I'm still looking for a torque specification though for the nut that holds the hub in place. I bought a service manual but am waiting for delivery.
Until the manual comes, I tightened the nut enough to seat the hub, backed it off, then resnugged it and deformed the nut again.

bearing noise - easy to replace bearings yourself, save $$?
Hi - what happened with your bearing problem?
i drove both a 2000 and a 2002 and the 2002 was quiet.
I am surprised that this problem *seems* to happen as often as it does.
Aren't the bearings sealed?
I also think you have to replace the hubs w/ the bearings (about 85 bucks per wheel - parts only), it LOOKS easy to do, anyone DIY this job themselves?
shopping for 2000-2002 EX accord coupe, 4 or 6 cyll
thanks - waltzee

By 'rear end' i mean rear wheel bearings....why do they die so fast?
sorry for the poor title on original post. i am test driving accord coupes, 2000-2002 and am surprised that 2 out of 5 have had significant rear bearing noise.
is this common in these cars?
i am looking at EX 4 or 6 cylinder versions (depending on price)
thanks - waltzee
