What up fellas? Just want your opinions on the msd sci-L. I purchased the ignition, coil and wires from http://www.secureleadercom.com/exstore/initsite.asp
I went to a mechanic and he told me that I should send it back and that it wasn't worth throwing it in the f22 (96EX Sedan, manual). I have the following bolt-ons,

Apex Ws exhaust
AEM Cold Air
AEM Cam Gear
DC Ceramic Headers
Free flow cat
AEM high flow fuel filter
AEM pulley kit

He told me that I wasn’t running lean and that my compression wasn’t high so why waste the dough to just send it back. Is it worth it? Should I do it anyway? What are your experiences with this product? Thanks for the feed back fellas.

IMO ignition upgrades are not necessary for basic bolt-on modifications. I know of people making well over 200whp that still run stock ignition components. I'd say save yourself the money and return the MSD stuff.

I'd have to agree with Shivers. The money could be better spent in any form of fuel managetment (Be it an Apex VAFC or Hondata). You will make more power and the car should run better.

It is very seldom fuel or ignition system upgrades are needed with bolt on's but despite what some people think even a stock engine can utilize fuel management.

Which one of the two would be more beneficial for me at this stage and what exactly does the vafc do compared to the Hondata?

I added the MSD Blaster coil and distributor to my car (no ignition module) and I did notice a decent kick in the ass... not too bad for only like $60 or whatever it cost for the parts. I say that it was a good investment, but I wouldnt go as far as changing the whole ignition, thats more suited for high-RPM. Might I add that my car is also running rather lean, being the fuel filter needs to be changed, I imagine with a little more fuel flow i'll feel the effects more.

Nology hotwires also give the car a little boost, but they're not really worth the $180 price tag. As I found out.

What power number did this make exactly? Can you define kick in the ass?
How did you measure it running lean? What was the Air/Fuel ratio? Running lean typically makes more power in N/A appilcations. Do you guys know what air/fuel ratio means lean?

On the note of VAFC vs hondata the Hondata is a better route if you can afford it and have a qualified tuner. VAFC is less powerful, easier to tune and possibly but not always cheaper.
