What power number did this make exactly? Can you define kick in the ass?
How did you measure it running lean? What was the Air/Fuel ratio? Running lean typically makes more power in N/A appilcations. Do you guys know what air/fuel ratio means lean?
On the note of VAFC vs hondata the Hondata is a better route if you can afford it and have a qualified tuner. VAFC is less powerful, easier to tune and possibly but not always cheaper.
