Default Fuse Box Question

hi, the other day, I install a scanner for my car, and they said that one wire should go to the battery and one to the chasis, i got it to work, but then my friend said that i shouldn't connect the battery wire to the battery and it could be dangerous, so he told me i should put it in the fuse box, but being a total girl that I am, I don't know how, so can anyone help me put the wire into the fuse box? how can I do it? thanks..by the way, i have a 1996 Accord.

Nothing wrong with wiring to the battery. If anything, u just wrap the wire around one prong of the fuse, and then put the fuse in. Use one that gets power all the time, like a power window or door locks. I dont think that scanner should pull too much power. If u are scared to do it, let someone do it who knows.

when wiring directly to your battery, you do need to install an inline fuse and a switch. you'll drain your battery otherwise because you're carrying a constant charge to the scanner if you car is on or off.

when tapping a fuse, you need to locate one that carries a charge when the car is on. all you need to do is split the wire, ground the black wire to the body of the car, run an inline fuse along the 12V, or power wire, and wedge it between the fuse and the fuse holder. it's like making the wire stay in there with the fuse acting as a pin.
