Default help... detector wiring...

i bought p 8500 recently and it originally comes with coiled cord...
so im thinking about ordering direct wire which is straight but the
problem is that thing is not plug-in type..
i gotta wire it into the fuse box... anybody knows how to do that??

its 02 4cyl 4drs

btw it was about $15.00 include shipping from escortstore.com the wire,
any other place to buy other than online? its the phone jack type...

You don't have to wire it into the fusebox, you can probably tap into your cig lighter. I tapped mine behind the head unit (aftermarket head unit), tapped the ground wire on the harness and then the power as well. The direct wire kit comes with self-tapping connector which just simply clamps onto the power wire, it's really neat. I'll take pics soon. I ran it under the steering column, up the fuse box, up the a pillar, then ran it above the headliner next to my rearview. I also put the little SmartButton thingy that flashes underneath the head unit in the little pocket. It was a fairly easy install. I'll be sure to post pics later on.

i no this is a dumb question but

is there any way to uncoil the coiled cord?? lol
or snap off the smart button part and connect it with straight wire?

i wanna keep that smart button thing,
direct wire w/0 smart is $15, w/ smart is $35
i spent enough on the detector... not willing to spend anymore on the accessories

You could try to uncoil it, but the wire won't be that long. I went ahead and got the smart button and everything. I'd say to just shell out the extra cash, the smart cord comes with a nice little BLUE l.e.d.... it's pretty nice.
