Default Strangeness at idle.......

OK, this sorta goes along with my previous clicking solenoid thread, but its a separate issue:

If at idle, I "goose" the gas pedal (dont poke fun for saying that!!), as in I tap it after its been at idle for 30 seconds or so, I get a brief period of the engine almost trying to die (as evident by the fact that the interior and headlights dim, almost like its trying to stall). At the same time, I hear a sucking noise, almost like an air leak, coming from the rear (closest to firewall) part of the engine......and it seems more on the side of the accessories. After that brief period, the engine almost seems to "catch up" to itself, and the RPMs go up.

I dont think this is normal, or at least I dont remember it. My car seems like its not performing well while driving, but Im not sure if this just occurs at idle or it ends up thru the whole powerband and I just cant feel/hear it while driving.

Thanks!!!
-Chris

try checking your PCV valve. the part is only $3 at autozone, but the lil bastard causes the same symptoms when it's broken.

if that doesn't work and your car actually dies at idle, you might have a jammed egr valve.

Neglected to mention, replaced PCV valve about two weeks ago. No change I actually hoped that was the original problem, but I guess not.

Any other ideas? I dont even know what vacuum stuff is located on the accessory side of the engine..........I was under the impression almost all of the vacuum stuff is around the throttle body/intake area.

Check your battery, alternator, distributor. Bad electrical problems lead to weird idling problems...I replaced my battery and I had a similiar problem in my 6gen v6.

Battery and alternator were recently replaced. However, I remember this issue long before I needed a new alternator (and subsequently, a new battery).

Ive pinpointed the leaking noise a little better, it actually sounds more towards the rear center of the engine, but under the intake plenums. I dont know whats under there though.

It's your fuel filter. Have it replaced, and dont do it yourself, cause it's too much of a headache.

Really? Have you experienced this before?

I kinda suspected it all along, but I figured Honda must think they hold up pretty well, if they put it in the fuel tank itself.

I wonder if it could be a warranty item.

Well,.. there's only one problem.... the filter I'm talking about is not in your tank, it's on the firewall under your brake master cylinder.

I think normal is suppose to be somewhere around 700 or 800 rpms.
