Default Will this hurt anything?

I drive an automatic, but I want to learn how to drive stick. Before I just jump out on the road, I get into a stick-shift car and just play around with the clutch, gears, and gas with the car off. Wll that mess up the clutch or anything else?

Just try it with the car running in an empty parking lot.

Can you answer my question please? If I had the option to drive it in an empty parking lot I would.

Go for, I'd disconnect the throttle cable first and go easy on it...have fun and don't go crazy.

It doesn't matter. Play with it all you want when the cars off... As long as youre not slamming the gears or anything, it should be fine. Keep in mind, the pedals wont have the same feel as they will when the car is running.

Won't mess up the clutch or gears. Don't know if I would go stomping on the gas. Will this flood the engine? Anyone know? I really don't know about that. When I used to ride dirt bikes in the desert, using the gas when it wasn't on would flood the engine.

Don't really see the point though. Your not going to learn to drive stick until you just go ahead and try. You may learn where all the gears are if you don't already know, and you may learn how to press down the clutch if you don't know how to do that, but I imagine you won't need any training in those departments. The trick with stick is learning when to push the gas and release the clutch so your car doesn't stall, and the only way to do that is by actually trying it with the car running. Why can't you go to an empty parking lot? Just have a friend or whoever is teaching you take you over.

That'll only flood the engine in a carburated car.

:werd: I don't know what the point of it is....the hardest part about learning how to drive stick is figuring out the point at which the clutch catches, and having the right balance between throttle and clutch....you can't do that with the car off. It seems pretty pointless to just sit there playing with the gas and clutch in a parked car that is off. Reminds me of what I used to do in my dads car.....when I was 6
