Default 2002-2003? 100K tune-ups REAL?

i see now the newer civics boast a 100K tune-up? Is that possible, how do they do that? Just really stretch the components?

Sure.
But it'll run like sh*t till then.

I dont have to shower for like a week but I'll smell like crap.
Just get a tune up every ~30K.

Back on topic, I get mail all the time saying to bring it in for this tune-up or that tune-up, and they all correspond relatively with how many miles are on the car. Is the 100k one just one of the many tune-ups that they reccommend (i.e. 3x,xxx tune-up, etc.)?

I think they are talking about your first scheduled major tune up. You know, things like plugs, wires, coolant, tranny fluid. Other things like air cleaner and oil still need the regular. The problem with a 100k tune up is that the plugs almost bond with the head, so when you try to take them out after 100k, you bring the threads with you. Then you end up with a new head. Just stick with the 30-40k intervals and you will be fine.

yeah i see that its the major tune-up, plugs etc, just didnt believe that you could ever get a cap to go that long before it wears out. And the other problem with the new setup, they arent any wires that i can see, just a solid black metal piece over the plugs, so it looks liek you gotta take off the intake, valve cover to get at the plugs and distro, so when you do have tune up it seeems very painful.

I like how the owners manual says you don't have to change the oil except every 7K miles +. My oil is dirty after 3K miles so I'm changing it. They are advertising the 2004 civic's as only needing an annual oil change. Granted it'll still probably make it to 100K miles w/ yearly oil changes. It all depends on how long you want your car to last.

our mercedes goes in about every 8mos (~11kmi) for an oil change (synthetic). the car's computer keeps track of useage and driving style to predict service wear. i've changed teh oil in my accord every 7500mi (per the owner's manual) with mobil1. oil changes color fast, but it doesnt mean it dirty or not working. its never gotton really dark ever. 125kmi and going strong.

100kmi tune up intervals dont include regular maintainence, like oil changes, air filters, etc. the "tune up" is basically valve adjustment, spark plugs, wires, etc. northstar engines have had 100kmi tune up intervals since 94. u really dont need to service the car until the manuf. reccomends it

Ahhhh, I forgot the new Civics have individual coils for each cylinder. They don't use a distributer anymore, they just trigger each coil. To get the plugs out, it's the same as doing the old civic. You just have to take the one nut off the top off that holds the coil down. Then take a deep socket and extension to get the plug out. It's cake.

ok, i get it, so it has 4 ignition coils then? What triggers each coil, a computer? Just curious i have 97 and my dad just got a 03, so its different underthere and I couldnt find out much info on the web about it. Thanks.

I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I think the computer triggers each coil at the right moment. Someone maybe able to give you a better explination. I would imagine it uses some sort of crank/cam sensor to do it. The only one I've seen up close is my parents 02 civic. My 96 still has the dist and plug wires.
