Default anyone know

a place to get a good deal on wheel bearings?

we went to change my rear shoes, and what do you know, they're fine, about 3/4 left. apparantly the problem lies with a seriously messed up wheel bearing. we called the only local auto parts store that was open at the time, and they wanted me to buy the whole hub assembly since they didn't sell the individual bearings.

this whole thing has been a royal pain in my ass, so does anyone know the best place to get them?

ouch...we don't have a NAPA here, but hopefully other places won't have the same price.

Can you get the number off of the bearing? Sometimes you can find a different application for the same bearing and get it cheaper. I used Arctic Cat crankshaft bearings for the wheel bearings on my old subaru and drove it for it for three more years before I sold it. There is generally a huge mark up on anything listed as automotive. An aftermarket subaru bearing was $40, an aftermarket arctic cat bearing is $8.

that napa price is probably the best you'll get. When the shop pressed in my new wheel bearings (front teg knuckles, both sides--off the car) it cost over $200... I don't know what difference it will make for your drum rears, tho :dunno:

I feel ya... I think mine were somewhere around $230, but they charged me an hour labor (even tho it only took them five minutes ) Plus they bought them straight from the acura dealer, so you might have better luck :happysad:

well my friends are going to do it (thank go) so i don't have to worry about labor. but i'm also making about $70 a week now so even just the parts will wipe me out.
