Check Engine Light
I recently bought a high flow converter for my car. When I installed it and turned the car on the CEL did not come on which I thought that was good then I remember my brother saying that when you install something on the car you usally have to do a days worth of drivng for the ECU to notice it. I thought that since it had been a day that nothing would happen well I was wrong. I was driving around today and all of a sudden my CEL came on
It might be another reason that the CEL came on but I am really positive that it is the converter since I got it installed a couple of days ago
Does anybody know what I can do to make the CEL go off and stay off even with the high flow converter? if not does anyone if it it will harm the car if I drive it with the CEL on? If there is no way to make it not come on with the high flow converter is on then I wasted $70 on a converter.

if your MIL is on because of the cat, then no...it won't hurt anything.
one problem you will have is you won't know if another code is thrown in the future, as the light will always be on and you'll have no way to know there is a new code stored.

i know that they sell o2 simulators for MOST obdII cars... if it is on because of the cat.. then FIX the problem... 02 simulator, obd1 conversion, or take the "highflow cat" off... don't be a smacked ass driving around with check engine lights..

What would an OBD1 Conversion do? What if I do not feel like fixing the problem right now? will my car still be ok?

i answered the second/third question already above.
When I asked the question a second time I was trying to ask if it is really that neccesary to fix the problem, I really do not feel like fixing the problem right now and if it is not going to hurt my car then I will leave it for a while. I will wait until school starts b/c I am taking an Auto Tech Class and the teacher has the machine to see what the problem is when the CEL comes on, I would rather wait to see what the problem is then; then to pay some one $80 to do it.
Dawrenn, I answered you about how to fix this already in your other thread about this same catalytic converter. I told you why this might happen, what it means, and provided you with a link to a VFAQ about how to fix it permanently and inexpensively. Converting from OBDII to OBDI would be and expensive exercise in futility in comparison to soldering in a 1 microfarad capacitor because you'd have to buy an expensive conversion harness and a new ECU. Here's a link to your other thread... with my reply... that has a link to the FAQ.

I have heard that but I don't feel any power loss at all, I know that it would not be that much of a loss but I do not think that it is affected by it. :dunno: Does anyone know if you can tell if Vtec is not engaging? if so how much of a power loss is it?
