Default The TRUTH about LS rods and D16 rods

The picture below is of what has to be machined off the LS rods to fit onto the D16 cranks.

The picture belows show a bronze-like sleeve that was pressed in by CROWER to fit floating-type wrist pins of D16 pistons. NOTE: CROWER no longer offers this service

The picture below depicts the rod difference between a P2P (Civic EX) rod and a PR4 (ACURA LS) rod.

Using my .001" micrometer, I measured that the LS rods were ~0.171" in larger width than the D16 rods. That may not seem like a lot, but when you hold both rods in each hand; it is a world of difference.

NOTE: LS have same rod length as a D16. No notching of block required! Also of note, the LS has roughly the same redline as the D16; therefore, there should be no problems for these rods to sustain the abuse from the D16 rotating assembly.

SWEET! Thanks for the info. Good pics.

How much needs to be shaved off of the LS rods, and did you have them all weighed when it was finished to make sure the correct ammount was removed from each (I'm sure you did) rod?

What do you think the LS rods will sustain boost-wise?

Why do you think Crower stopped sleeving the rods for floating pins?

Did the rods come back to you packaged with that lovely lace doiley or was that sold separately? :P heheheh

The LS rods were basically sent to a machine shop along with D16 rods so that only enough would be taken off the LS rods. The machine shop did the balancing.

Boost-wise, the LS rods should take a lot more abuse than the D16 rods; how much? I do not know.

I have no idea why CROWER stopped doing it. You can email them, they reply rather quickly.

I wouldn't know. You'd have to find someone willing to do it for you. Basically, the LS little end is larger than the D16 little end; therefore, you have to press in a sleeve to the D16 specs.

That's not a bad deal for $500shipped, but if you shop around you can get WISECO pistons and EAGLE rods for $600 brand new.

BTW, EAGLE rods for D16 requires notching of the block (as does the B16 rods). Ask me how I know. h:
