I know it will make as much as a b16. If you decide to build it up later you could throw on a vtec head.

SOHC vtec engines are 127 ... getting that to 300.... can it happen?

oh, yeah it can get to 300. I would spend the money on building a D16Y8, and turbo the bish. you could get 300 with that setup, plus D16's are cheap and reliable.

screw swaps!

It would take a lot more money to make a sohc make 300 than it would a dohc.

ok i might build up a y8....
there is a guy around here with a y8 setup and he runs a turbo (im not sure how much boost) and he has a nitrous system hooked up but he currently has an empty tank...
anyways if i do buildup a y8 i am hoping to be fast enough to kill him...

how much will the vtec head cost me?
how much do the turbos for the y8 cost?
appx. how much boost can i run on stock internals... (hp yield??)
if i do change the internals what is the most necessary to change to allow me to run a higher boost?

not unless I have to (ie, tranny failure)

I'm just torn between staying mostly N/A in a b16 (maybe juice it to beat stangs) or going boost in the y7.

with these:
- skunk2 d16 IM ($300)
- KMS d16 throttle body ($200)
- whatever turbo kit is available (probably Greddy's kit h: ), or maybe go custom. I wish Apexi still made theirs.... (~$1500)
- FMIC (~$300-$500)
- upgraded fuel management (DMS 450cc's, SMC, Fuel rail/pump) (~ $300-$500)
- supra piston/b16 rod combo (lowers compression a tad, too ) ($500)
- tranny cooling kit (dunno on that one, I might not even fuck with it)
- Apexi WS exhaust ($400)

I'm figuring maybe 160hp or so on 8psi daily driven.

and at worst, I'm spending $4000 on everything I need, which is about the same for the b16.

hard to say tho. Very, very, very few boosted y7's.

we'll see

I doubt you will make 160 on 8psi. I have seen some auto tegs that only make about 180 on 10psi. I'd just convert the tranny, get it out of the way.

you can't go wrong w/ a B18B (LS motor) and turbo it.. bigger displacement, dual cam motor, no vtec to worry about, more torque

better choice than the small SOHC d16y8, torqueless B16A2, and OBD1-headache-causing first gen B16

you Could go w/ the d16y8, but because it's single cam and 1.6L, it has less potential in the long run (imo)

if you swapped a B18C1, you'd only have a $1000 or so left to spend.. so you'd be spending your $5000 on about 130wtq

turbo = TORQUE = good = what you want
