Default can't get up to speed

I have a 95 civic dx 5spd. It takes me a very long time to get it up to 55mph. It is stock. I put it in 5th and floor it, but the speedometer will barely move. I can not even hear the rpm raise that much. I was told that it could be the cat. Any help please. I need this fixed before any mods. Thanks

my civic lx is stock (at the moment) and it gets up to speed pretty good, 50ish in second and about 85 in third.

You can unbolt your cat and look into the flanges to see if it's clogged. I bet it's your muffler, though.

Chop the muffler off. It might not be the cat that's clogged up. As long as you still have the catalytic converter in the mix, it's really not all that loud. I ran around like that for a long time. A friend of mine's LS integra has been like this for 3 years now, and he's never been pulled over for it. Without the cat, you well get pulled over every 5 feet because it's deafening.

My civic doesn't accelerate in 5th gear from 55 mph either, and I have a '95 dx engine. It didn't do it even with a straight exhaust.

Yeah we need more details, because I'm thinking he gets the car started in first then maybe goes directly to 5th, in which case it ain't gonna get to 55 no time soon. You can plan out your whole day in the time it takes to get up to 55 that way, and if you try it going up a hill then you might as well put it in reverse cause that's the direction you will go.

Are you serious? Is this your first time driving a manual?

B/C if ur flooring it, u shouldn't have it in 5th at 55......
