Default Skunk2 Coilovers

I am planning on buying Coilovers for my 99' Civic. The question I have is when I purchase the Coilovers will I have to buy new shocks too? The reason I am asking is I really don't have the money to put in for new shocks. If I have to buy shocks I will be able to get the money some how. I had Coil Overs on my 93 Civic and when I got them I had to buy new shocks, the reason I think that I needed new shocks was that the car was a 93' and the shocks most likely were not changed. Also one of the nuts was seized up. Will that be a factor on my car? I would think on a car that is only 4 years old would not need new shocks but I could be wrong. The car might have new shocks b/c the Previous owner had lowered the car less than 1/2 inch so he/she might have bought shocks when they got the car lowered

How hard is it to intstall Coilovers on a 99' Civic? On a Scale from 1-10 what is the difficulty

The reason I did not take the coilovers of the car b/c the car was too damaged from when I got in an accident

um.. You will need new shocks if you get the skunk2 coilovers, they suck. Get ground controlls and you will be okay on the shocks you have now. At least for a while. As far as difficulty installing them... It depends if you know what you are doing. It took me about an hour and a half to do them on my integra and the suspension is the same setup as the civic. If you haven't ever done them before, it might take up to 3 hours, maybe more depending on what tools you have.

If I do buy new shocks what type should I get? Are there any shocks that are good for a resonable price? Koni Yellows are too expensive for me. Are Koni Reds good?

What About a Full Tein Coliover setup? Does anybody have any links for the right set up for my car? I have looked at Places that have Tein Coilovers but I can't Find out which one I need to get.

You should do shocks also, but you don't need too.... You'll just blow your stock ones. I would personally just wait till you can afford shocks and do them both at the same time.... It'll save you A LOT of time, only having to do the install once.

I would reccommend ground control over skunk2 too. I don't think skunk2s are that bad, but ground contol comes with genuine waranteed eibach springs in any spring rate you want. Full (real) coilovers like tein arent worth the money IMO, and aren't nearly as practical/servicable as sleeve c/o's.

I don't know about koni reds. I used to autocross on tokiko illumina's, and they were pretty decent, and people seem to like KYB AGX for a nice, well-priced adjustable shock. I saved up and got Koni Yellows, and they are AWESOME.

On a scale of 1-10, one being changing a battery and 10 being internal tranny work, I'd give a strut install a 2.7 :exnbp:

Skunk2 are excellent for ride and handling, but just a bit bouncy. I had Koni Reds and Skunk2 and I think even Koni Reds are still a bit soft for it. I don't think stock shock will do. Definitely replace with Koni Yellows. If you are short on money, you might wanna wait till you can get both Skunk2 and Koni Yellows because they are worth every penny (if you are okay with a bit of bounciness of Skunk2). Good luck.
