If you messed with the internals of the dist. it might be that. The engines rpms are determined by the dist.

I'd have to disagree with you. I would never go "newer". Either same year or older. The older you go the less sensors there are to worry about, etc. Thats why alot of people (including myself) go to obd1 ecu's. Less shit to worry about.

I would have loved to drop the same year motor in my car, but the kid I bought it from screwed me. Now its my turn to screw him. I had a buddy of mine (lawyer) start the paper work to file a lawsuit against him. It's a win win situation. I have all his e-mails, voice messages, and witnesses that I never received the right motor and didn't get all the shit I was supposed to get. Not to mention all the headaches he caused me....

Huh? You got the wrong motor?

Also, in some states, it's actually illegal to swap a motor that is older than the car - FYI.

Ya the kid said he could get me a 99-00 motor without a problem. Shipped me a ****in 96! Then I just sucked it up and kept it since I looked EVERYWHERE and nobody had one. I mean EVERYWHERE! And since they should all have about the same mileage it didn't bother me to bad.... but here's teh catch... THe ecu came damaged so I sent it abck to him. Then I said since I requested a 99-00 motor will your supplier take the hit for the cost of the ecu harness adapter. He said they would without a problem. SO I was like ok sweet. Then I'll definitely keep the motor. TOld me mechanic to begin the work. Mechanic calls me and says ur using your stock axels? I was like wtf they were supposed to come with it. So I called this kid again and he hgad them sent (overnight he said) got them a week later. Then my mechanic calls me again and says your shift linkage won't fit... I was like I know you ahve to use the b-series linkage that came with it. So he says no linkage came. Keep in mind I was still waiting for the ecu. Soo a MONTH goes by and nothing. Never answered any of my calls... blew me off completely. Then one day instead of calling my phone he leaves me a message. Everything is on its way (linkage and ecu) u should have it soon. I already bought the linkage so I could have just sold that.... but my mechanic wanted my car gone. SO I had to drive it home with my stock ecu. Anyway... nothing else ever cam....

Some people *must* go newer , though. Smog Regulations in California = newer engine or same year or no smog ><
