that's what i was wondering too actually....filters are cheap, a 5 quart jug of mobil 1 isn't
I watched a 60 Minutes episode a few years back where Consumer Reports took 10 New York City taxi engines apart, inspected, photographed and documented engine wear then rebuilt the engines. They placed new motor oil in all 10 taxis. 5 taxis had oil changes every 3,000 miles or every 3 months for one year. The other 5 taxis also got new oil but went a year with no oil change, only weekly level checks and filled to proper level.
After the year was over all 10 of the engines were torn apart, reinspected and no difference was found in engine wear between the two groups.
Something to think about...

I use Penzoil 5W30 full synthetic and usually a K&N oil filter unless they are out of stock. I change the oil every season (4 times per year) since I only put about 8K to 10K a year on my cars. I think that 3K/3 months is a crock of crap unless you drive your ride HARD daily like I'm sure some of you may do. But it's your car and your money so do as you please...
At a minimum though change it every 6K or 6 months IMO.
