I hate seeing people just waste $$$ on 10hp. My answer is dyno proven, can you show me a dyno of ANYONE getting 4 hp out of a 5w30 oil change? I challenge you to...good luck, I'll even accept a car that hasn't had an oil change in 10,000-15,000 miles.
Well, it all depends on how the motor is clearanced whether you'll get UP TO 4 more hp on thinner oil - there was a model year split in D16z6s as to what kind of oil honda recommended for their engines. I'm not spouting this stuff just to talk, this is fact and has been proven by three other cars on a local dyno - I didn't believe it myself until I saw it with my own eyes. You will at least see 2 more hp. Let's look at this fact: D16Z6s and D16Y8s have to run well over 55 psi of oil pressure to get the vtec to even engage - that's a lot of oil pressure, and it takes quite a bit of power to produce. I have nothing to gain by stating this, neither do I think that sohcs are the end all. I like them alot because they are cheap, get awesome MPG - even when modded, and run almost forever. Besides, they come stock in most civics and quite honestly, not everyone wants to swap. Some people want to get the most out of their motors they possibly can for as little money as possible and there's nothing wrong with recommending $500 worth of stuff that can squeek another 15 horse out of their daily driver. BTW, I think Jackson superchargers are not that great - they're way overpriced and not that reliable.... I had one myself. Turbo's the way to go for the money, but if you like the Jackson SC, that's fine - to each his own. I'd love to swap for a B18C1, but I don't want to spend the money and I love my MPG from my sohc.

I understand and can see 2 hp, just 4 seemed like a stretch so you gotta understand my skepticism (sp?).

I understand where you're coming from - there's a lot of BS out there as far as power adders concern. It just takes quite a bit of money to pull out even more power out of small and already efficient engines from the start. I'm sure the V8 guys laugh at us for trying so hard, but not everyone wants to drive an american rattle box around and break down every other week. Honda reliability is second to none!

simple bolt on turbo kit will get you into the 14s...and a little more will get you in the high13 low 14 range..that will cetainly beat alot of cars.

I have a stock d15b7 and need help with some mods that will get me some more hp. What i keep hearing is discouraging. I only paid 1k for my 95 civ with 166k on the motor. Is 166k too much?
I need help with some quick bolt ons.

Yes, that's high mileage. Your best bet would be to at least replace the head gasket and COMPLETE tune-up if you plan on adding any power. If you really not interested in racing and don't care about HP, just do a CAI and exhaust like every other ricer. If you want to race it, put a turbo kit on because it's the most economical way of gaining power.

This thread is now over for me b/c I hate repeating myself......

ya, cmon doctorsohc.....you gotta understand his skepticism, you know, considering hes a diluted idiot.

SIR-DC2 - if you dont know what your talking about, atleast put a little disclaimer like 'IMO' or 'i think'. because if you dont, then people who are still learning will take what you say too seriously and they might start to believe it as fact. im not saying that everything you said was wrong, but some of it was. we're comparing SOHC to DOHC here. it sounds more like you're comparing D-series to B-series. there are a lot of reasons a d16 doesnt perform like a b16. you cant just trace it all back to the number of cams. its like saying that a coupe is faster than a sedan. ya, sometimes it is, but it really doesnt matter how many doors it has.

A fully built sohc will never match a dohc in anything
do i need to give examples?

I'd love some example as to w/ a d16 is close to a b16? Please, if I am soooooo wrong find some evidence, prove me wrong...maybe you can't read that well...my main point is that a sohc built to the max and a dohc built, the single WILL NEVER MATCH THE POWER OUTPUT OF A DUAL due to MANY FACTORS that I'd rather not go into detail over due to it's over most peoples heads. Otherwise every racer would use singles and not duals, more power potential w/ a dual.
The only thing you quote is my inability to see a 4 hp increase over switching from 10/30 to 5/30 when they are VERY close in viscosity...please.
