Sohc <> Dohc
i know what it means, but really, I dont see how it makes THAT much of a difference. About what is the difference in HP from a single and dual overhead?
Also wonderin how the hell I can find out what my engine is?
all i know is its a SOHC vtec
wanna know:
1.5L? 1.6L?
Year?
Model?
a friend of mine let it go for hella cheap and even did the install, but didnt quite specify what it was.
my stock engine was like a D15 or D16? thats what I was hearing alot of, but got no clue what I had.
sorry, im a noob
Here it is, if that helps

if u look on the engine block next to where the tranny bolts up it will give u the engine code. If its a d16z6 then its sohc vtec. Whatever it is you should be able to figure it out the " d" is the series "16" is the liters 1.6.
Difference between a DOHC and SOHC as far as power, dual cams will be able to spin faster because there is less friction with each cam touching half as many valves as a SOHC set up. The less friction you have, the faster parts can move, better revs, more power made easier.
Unless your car is an EX Sedan, which were made in 1992 only I believe, you have a 1993-1995 Civic DX or LX Sedan with the D15b7.
The motor you have comes stock with 102 bhp, and 98 lb ft of torque. It's a 1.5 liter 16 valve without VTEC. The motor itself is not too strong, but it can take alot of abuse. Swapping a d16z6 or y8 head onto it, with tuning and bolt ons, perhaps even A6 pistons, you can be yielding about 130 hp, To the WHEELS. I've seen it done, and it's very possible to do with just stock Honda internals alone. If you have an Automatic, you're basically shit out of luck unless you get a transmission swap. The Automatic tranny on the d15b7 is about as half as fast as the manual.. No doubt you could Make the automatic fast though, you just have to have the right parts and alot more money to do it.
To me, the DOHC VTEC Motors are a waste of time and money if you don't have the proper means to get ahold of one. (i.e. you have to order it online for 2500$ and pay 500$ shipping, not to mention if you don't have the tools or skills to swap the motor in yourself.) If you currently have a decently powered SOHC in your car (d16z6, d16y8, d16a6) give it a chance. I'd suggest slapping a snail on. But for your motor, add nitrous on it, with that alone you'll be killing hybrids with ease... and with some dyno tuning and a 75 shot, you can put down some pretty decent track times with the SOHC.
