good idea not including vws. Im not about to say all vws are bad because i really like some, but my dad has a 2000 passat v6, and i HATE it. The pedals feel shitty, the whole car feels like its gonna fall apart and we have had constant problems. everyone in the family hates it which is why it will soon be traded in on something along the lines of an evo or sti

Well, a buddy of mine has a 2001 GTI that runs high 13's and he has not spent much at all. And, it would out handle my civic anyday. Oh, and it looks tight as hell. As far as quality goes, well my wifes friend has a passat 4motion and that car drives just as nice as my bosses s500. Also, one of my friends has a 2003 Jetta VR6 stock and it's very nice. Every manufacturer has lemons. I'm a Honda freak but I don't agree with you on the quality of VW's.

If for no other reason, I don't like the look of VW's either, in addition to all the reasons I've given so far. If none of those reasons make sense to you, then out of personal preference, I don't like the way VW's look, interior and exterior. If that makes me a freak for prefering the SI to a VW, then I'm a freak.

Sentra claims 175hp and on the dyno it puts out 140hp, that's what you all seem to be saying. Actually, that sounds about right. Nissan must've taken the 175hp number when they dyno tested the ENGINE before hooking it up to a trans and axles and putting wheels on them. you're gonna lose power between the crank and the wheels, so them claiming 175hp (they meant to say "bhp" but neglected to do so) and the car putting 140 to the ground sounds about right.

Go with the honda if you're going for performance. go with the nissan if your girlfriend wants a family soon!

I dont think that other people experiences are a valid basis for whether a manufacturer has quality issues. Most of the time you will only hear bad, and every model has a few lemons.

Also, there really is no argument for either the si or the sentra as far as performance superiority compared to the gti. Why would you rather have an na 160 hp 1.6 liter than a 1.8 liter 180 hp turbocharged engine? To be proud that your car is na and has less tuning potential? To car enthusiasts and tuners, stock output isnt really much of a point of consideration for buying a car.

You just seem to keep on saying the same thing and ignoring every new point of contention I bring up. Anyway, thanks for your input, but I'm not going to consider a VW.

Hehe. Thanks. I'm also actually considering an accord coupe right now.
