Default Turbo That D16Y8!!

What do you guys think of turboing the d16y8. I heard its pretty good for 1/4 . I also would like to know if ya think that new jg edlebrock kit sounds good? I think it sounds like the best kit yet. And how fast do you think you can make the sohc vtec? i was thinking at most what around 12's or so? Thats really good and i dont really want to swap . So any help would be great Thank You ALL

You could get 12's out of it, you would need at least 300hp. Apex got 360 out of it. Good luck though, it won't last.

I'm still in the early planning stages, and this was one of the options I considered (d16y8 w/ turbo kit).

Yeah, it _might_ go fast in a straight line... but we've got so many nice curvy roads here in New England

And I don't think the turbo would be as good for that application.

I think this sport attracts the impatient crowd (something about people that like going fast )

But if you can resist the urge, that 2+ grand for a turbo is a good start to saving to drop a nice motor in, which is what I think I'm going for (b18c1?) And then maybe down the road, after you've got your torque and acceleration nailed, and your suspension and breaks are worked, then maybe a turbo...

Personally, I'm just going to blow all of my money on stickers :chuckles:

It all depends on what size turbo you go with that will determine if it will be useful in curvy situations. A lot of the turbos out there such as the apex kit can hit full boost at 3-4k rpm, which will be at max power much sooner than you would get out of a B18 engine.

Torque means nothing if you are moving already.

ummm.... a sohc turbo will beat a hybrid....

the apex kit is like $1400 on gbc....all you need is a couple minor parts and a FMIC which you can pick up anywhere and get pipes made...or you can get the FMIC from apex but i think its expenisive..anyone know?

OK, it will beat a hybrid. Sounds reasonable.

But let's look at it from another angle.

You drop a B-series. with I/H/E choosen with a turbo upgrade in mind.
You LEARN DOHC tuning, you cut your teeth on a real engine, you get to know it, love it:naughty:.
You learn to DRIVE:driving: it. (I'm not disparaging, just saying, maybe this HP, is a good "teething" car).

(maybe you grow out of the need to blow the doors off of everything on 2+ wheels, and find bombing back-roads is a truer test of skill:screwy: )

So when/if you decide to drop the turbo in
1)You know the engine inside and out, this will help with install/maintenance of the engine.
2)You're ready for a performance boosts, cause you have some wheel experience.

(I'm not sure the turbo tuning considerations with vtec SOHC/DOHC, I'm kinda noob there )

Did I bring up any good points?
:dunno:
And now to save this post from being totally off-thread-topic
jkan2001 has a SOHC TURBO setup, and he doesn't seem to be completely full of shit. (only about 30%) Heheheh, just kidding (25%)

Also I came across this link: turbod16.no-ip.com that deals solely in your question.

Jeez, I need a turbo timer to let that long winded ass post wind down
