Default H22A Swap

I have the option of turbocharging my automatic civic ex, or going for a complete h22a swap. I'd like to do the swap to get the hydro manual tranny along with it, but the turbo would give me a lot of power and torque and probably cost a lot less. What do you think i should do?

h22a is more work and money and FASTER...you have to decide on what you want.

H22A would be a more desirable/reliable power option. Plus its always nice to get rid of an auto tranny.

Whenever anybody brings up the H-series question I always have to throw in my handling rant, so here goes.... Keep in mind that the H22 weighs over 150lbs more than your d-series, thats like a fullsize dude riding on your hood. Civics are inherently front weight biased, and the H-series just makes it worse. Your car wont handle as well, and will plow like a bastard. Not to say it can't handle, but it can't handle as well a s a d/b-series civic. But if you just want to go fast, go ahead and get the H22. Theres no replacement for displacement :fawk:

You will need some suspension upgrades for your car to handle the right way like white_n_slow said. Other than that, it'll be good power. Keep in mind you may lose a/c and p/s and it's a tight fit, you'll have to get the HAsport mount kit. Also if your car has been in a front end wreck the motor might not fit in, the frame rails have to be almost perfectly straight to drop a H22 into a civic.

i am planning on doing this swap at the end of summer, i found a place to do it. the axles will be relaced with stronger ones, and my suspension is completely finished. i have GC , koni yellows, and skunk 2 camber kit. will this set up be alrgiht for the extra weight?
also, for it not handleing as well, if i were to eventually get some sway bars and such, would that help out alittl?

ha...i was given a 90 accord lx cuz my lil bro inherited my mom's newer car....perfect car....but one good thing, the h22a will drop right in.....fast 4 door(i need all 4 too)...swapping to 5 speed while i'm at it....maybe my motor will be in THIS WEEK...supposed to be here 2 weeks ago...but i'd drop the h22a in your civic....most people alter their suspension for looks anyway, and hurt the handling a lot worse than the h motor will......if handling a mountain road is on the top of your priority list, then don't do it....if you don't push the limits in every curve, then definitely get it....fast out of the box....

If you are going to turbo the D series, at least get an auto to manual tranny swap first or else you WILL blow your automatic tranny eventually.

I talked to a place near where i live called hybrid dynamics. my brother is getting his GSR put in next week. they said they have done a few h22's and they will do mine but it will cost alittle more for installation. They said its not that much harder other than the wiring, and they replace the axles with beter ones.

my h22 dx hatch has tokico illuminas and drop zone coilovers handling is slightly better than stock. i imagine that when i get good tires on it, and poly bushings it will improve a lot more too.
