question about abs?
A few years back R/T did a test with an M3 with and without the ABS, the stopping distances were identical. I'll try and see if I can find an article. It really only made a difference in wet conditions, however the main problem with ABS is that people don't use it properly (yes it can be used incorrectly). Most people when they start feeling a vibration in the petal let of of it and back on again, that defeats the purpose of using ABS.

:werd: its a little humiliating, but no human driver can modulate brake pressure as well as a modern ABS computer. Its just a fact--been tested and proven a thousand times. Sorry to burst anybody's bubble.
gotcha. My main point was that in order to use conventional brakes to their full potential, you've got to be good at pedal modulation to use full braking force without locking up. Whereas with ABS, you just give it a healthy stomp, and the abs takes car of the rest.
rundown:
Michael Schumacher without abs = white_n_slow with abs.:exnbp:

For the most part ABS is only helpful in wet conditions, most peoples first reaction when traction is lost in wet conditions is to slam on the brakes, and if you are experienced you know that is not the right thing to do. In dry conditions however, ABS has a very small effect.
I should also add that it is a myth that cars with ABS have shorter stopping distances than the ones that don't.

the purpose of ABS is not shorter stopping distances.. but rather control in harsh braking conditions.. something flies out in front of you and you slam on the brakes.. you are then able to control the car around the obstacle with abs rather then locking and sliding..

can you install abs on a 97 dx? what parts would you need to have from a donor vehicle to make it possible?
