Default Most Economical swap. Price?

Here's the situation: I owe my dad 2k left on my car(1k for the car/1k for insurance/gas/ etc...). My motor is a 95 D16z6 with about 7k on it(rebuilt). Its been abused by the former owner. I have a few questions:

1) What is the cheapest and most economical swap? Any good places to buy a motor? Should I buy off a reputable online seller, or from a junkyard?

2) How hard would it be for me to install it myself? I am really scraping for pennies, so any way I can save $ it great! Is there a site that can give explicit details on how to swap X motor in? Is there any way I can get around tuning bills, and yet have a smooth running car?

3) I am hoping to eventually get a turbo. What turbo would be my best bet. I want something I can daily drive, and yet crank up boost for race days. Also, I don't want something that requires alot of tuning and maintinence(scratched off the LS/Vtec swap)

I'm not real sure about the details of swaps, but I need a little help!

I'd say get a LS swap, they are cheap and pretty easy to find. Then get a junkyard T25 or T3 setup for the turbo down the road if you want to save some cash.

WHOOOOHOOO, 100th post!!!

anyways.....

get a B16 swap, it's sometimes cheaper than a LS plus you get more fun wit it.

everybody is more than willing to help, just ask nicely without any arrogance or it's open flame season .... researching on how to do the swap is easy. the hard part is going through each frozen, damn rusted bolt in tiny places that midgets can't even get to.

installing it isn't too hard, it's the investment in tools and the amount of sweat, grim, grease, and stinging eyes from all three getting in there that's costly. but tools will always be yours and the knowledge gain will always be priceless.

Good Luck!!

Jkan 2001-- If i get a LS, should I get a Vtec head to go on it? Or should I just run a LS motor with t4 turbo?

What kinda interals mods should i need to do to be able to run ~10 psi daily? I'd like a min of 250hp with turbo? I already accounted for fuel system upgrade(pump, regualtor, and rail) etc....... Just what kind of mods should be done to the LS to safely handle 10-15 psi?

Thanks!
Spike

BTW, What would be a good price for a LS? Any years I should stay away from? Any thing I should esp. look for in buying a used LS?

just dont go "cheap". if prices seem too low, remember: u get what u pay for. my advice: buy from a reputable place that does alot of business selling motors. dont buy 2nd hand from private parties as they dont offer any warranty of any kind. if you buy from a store, u can atleast contact them or sick the bbb on their asses

How much do LS motors go for these days? I was seriously thinking of doing this setup (LS/Turbo) but I always had this notion that a complete LS motor would be too costly...

Have fun waiting for that t4 to spool. Just get a ls and turbo it. Fook Vtec.

You can just get hondata and use stock internals. With good tuning you should be able to run about 10psi daily and 12 or more for race. From LS's on 12psi with hondata, I've seen about 280 whp. All on stock internals.
