Bondo questions and procedures....
What is the best kind of bondo and where is the best place to get it from.
Is there any specific temp. you have to use for it to work right? It basically is the same thing as putty, but for your car, right?
I'm going to shave the front hood emblem, but need to fill in the holes. Here's my plan:
Remove emblem
Clean the area
Sand it down(what grade sandpaper should I use??)
Fill the holes with bondo(How long does it need to dry??)
Smooth it down
Spray paint adheision 2 coats
Spray flat back 2 coats
Do I need a clearcoat as well?
THANKS!

hey crucial, how i searched a bit, and couldnt find details on how long it took u to finish up ur car. also how hard was it to take dents out? on a scale from 1-10, 1 being light bulbs, 10 being changing ur timing belt
shaving emblems is ****in' cake. 45 mins your first time around.
steps:
remove emblem.
sand down to the metal
right where the holesa re you are gonna fix i take a screw drive and bang that area down a little.
i think take fiberglass and apply it the dent created i apply it so it's some what even with the rest of the hood.
once the fiberglass dries i sand it smooth. if there are indents or if i'm not satisfied with the way it's sitting i keep sanding or apply a little more fiberglass to even it out. try to seal up the dent with fiberglas nicely.
then when the fiberglass i smooth and even with the hood.
i add the little bit of bondo to even everything out. when you first start body work you won't know how much bondo to use, and wind up sanding most of it off. you get better as you go along.
keept sanding till you get the whole area perfect, PERFECT.
then i move up in grit to make it smooth and soft as i keep going. i usually get up into the 1000 girt papers and stuff before i'm done.
it's ****in' cake and once you have it sitting pefect smoothing it out is freakin' cake.
also judge by your fingers not by seeing the work.
lay on the primer after you are done, and you'll see any imperfections in your work. sand and get it clean and primer.
do not let water get to the bondo or it'll dry out and crack. if it's primered up right away you'll be money.
you can do emblems, minor dents, antenna', key holes shaving the same way.

it's not worth it to get those thin things welded up...
only think i would weld up is when you do license plate holder cover ups. door handles.
i used to think the same way. but my **** has been done for over a year and a hlf . no cracks or anything.
it's your $ though.
