brake pedal problem

I think it's that similar threads thing at the bottom, links to old threads. Sounds me like the MC is failing. It's not something a garage can really check as you can't see inside of it. If the seals are failing, I can't efficently push fluid and it won't work. Do the cheap thing first, bleed the hell out of it and make sure there is no air, but it may need a new MC.

Thanks Andy but too late. Had it bled again by my garage but this did not work. Had MC replaced today and have had no recurrence of brake problem yet. But if I do, I'll show them your post. Regards. Bob

O, something I rorgot to mention. Before new MC installed, I noticed that when the engine was off, the brake pedal met very firm resistance after about half inch of travel no matter how often I pumped on it. Was this meaningless, or did it mean the MC in fact was working right ?

Thats normal because of the pressure built up inside of the brake booster. It has nothing to do with your master cylinder.
