I think it's that similar threads thing at the bottom, links to old threads. Sounds me like the MC is failing. It's not something a garage can really check as you can't see inside of it. If the seals are failing, I can't efficently push fluid and it won't work. Do the cheap thing first, bleed the hell out of it and make sure there is no air, but it may need a new MC.

I completely agree and had the same thing happen in my integra.

BTW, I think the similar threads feature rocks.

Hope that fixes it. I'm also not sure if this is true or not, but I've heard the check valve that goes between the intake manifold and brake booster (to provide vaccum for the booster) can also start to fail/wear. You might even want to try changing that fitting and line (small hall could cause the same effect), could save you having to change the MC. Seeya.

Thanks Andy but too late. Had it bled again by my garage but this did not work. Had MC replaced today and have had no recurrence of brake problem yet. But if I do, I'll show them your post. Regards. Bob

O, something I rorgot to mention. Before new MC installed, I noticed that when the engine was off, the brake pedal met very firm resistance after about half inch of travel no matter how often I pumped on it. Was this meaningless, or did it mean the MC in fact was working right ?

Thats normal because of the pressure built up inside of the brake booster. It has nothing to do with your master cylinder.
