Default Help please, b16A2 cam seals replacement

I'm in the middle of my timing belt maintenance and found my cam seals need replacing. I arleady have my timing belt off and everything is set to TDC for #1. My haynes manual lacks the step by step instructions for replacing just the cam seals (not the one on the passenger side of the block)

So I could use two pieces of advice:

1. What is the best method for removing the cam gears. Should I reinstall the timing belt, place the car in gear and then loosen the two bolts holding on the gears? Or is there a better method since I already have the belt off? I tried placing a long screwdriver through the gear but I think the gear spins too much and I worry I may hit a piston.

2. Can I install the new seals without removing the entire cam? If so would someone please list how?

After begging this maintnenace I realized I need to get a different manual because mine is too vague, and that next time around I should check the cam seals before removing the timing belt.

Thanks

put in the cam lock pins. If you are at TDC look right behind the cam gear on the cam. There should be a hole on cam cap, this hole matches up with a hole in the cam. I can't remember but I think it is a 6mm pin but if you have anything that will fit laying around it will work. I use two allen wrenches that fit.

These holes are on a b16a2? Maybe I overlooked the information but I didn't see this listed my Haynes manual or the Helms I have online...

So place an allen or punch through the holes and that will hold the cams stationary enough to remove the cam gears?

yup.

<---certified Acura Technician. I know the b18b and b18c have them, and since the b16a is basically the same motor I would assume it would have the same holders.

Your are correct. I used a screw driver to hold them in place (after bending an allen and deciding I needed something stronger) and it allowed me to remove both cam gears. Seals were able to be pulled out without removing or loosening anything else. Thanks so much, you made this alot easier.

You can definitely get the cam seals, you can just get the single seals at the dealership but might as well get the whole gasket kit from Kragen.
