You either read wrong or that mag was FOS man.. they slip right off of the shift fork. If you were trying to take it apart, you may need a press, but not to get it off of the tranny.
Besides, throwout bearings are cheap. My new clutch came with one (ACT).

If you're going to replace your clutch/bearing, just do the flywheel at the same time. It's not an easy task (not real hard either, just time consuming) to take your tranny out so you want to do all you can while you're in there. JMO.

nah u don't need a press...i changed my clutch when i toasted my first tranny, it just slips on and off. If you don't have FI you shouldn't really need an upgraded clutch unless you beat on your stock one hardcore. I'm happy with my ACT HDSS though, it drives very close to stock feeling but still holds power

well, the magazine was showing how to change the clutch of a Sylvia, so maybe those you do have to use a press. either way, i'm glad to hear i don't need a press to change it out.

since you guys have both done it, how difficult is it to change out if you don't have an impact wrench? the only tools i have at my disposal are some sockets, socket extensions, and jack stands to get the car in the air. i hear the tranny is light enough that i can drop it down by myself. is this true?

Yes, I've done many clutch/flywheel swaps in my garage with the tools you have. It's not that difficult, it just takes some time.

Specialty tools you will need:
Clutch alignment tool
balljoint separator/fork
torque wrench
large hammer (mini sledge)
32mm socket
breaker bar

and a friend always helps.
