It seems as though that with the Jun2 cams, even though they made a lot of mid range power, I would need to upgrade my springs and retainers which I don't really want to do. Also, Is there anything I should look out for when buying a used set of cams? found a guy with a good deal on a set of skunk2 stage 1 cams and cam gears.

Also, is there any noticeable difference in the loudness of upgraded cams? That will also play a factor in my decision too.

It's a tough decision, but you need to just pick one and live with it. I decided to go with the Stage 1's because to me, since I was spending the money on the cams, cam gears, and dyno time, I wanted the max potential without being required to upgrade my valvetrain (which is more money and much more labor intensive). The Stage 1's were the best cams for me.

As for new or used, I was originally going to buy a used set of cams. I've bought many things used before and sometimes you get a great deal and sometimes you get scewed. From what I found, used cams are only a $100 or so cheaper than buying brand new. So I went with new ones because I didn't want my cam purchase to be one of those used buy's that didn't turn out as expected. Used is used.

As for the set you found, if it's the guy in the Classifieds, I'd be a little wary of him. I was ready to buy his cams and cam gears but he never followed through with getting me pics or anything like that. He told me ho would get me pics and I never heard anything after that. I'm not a person who is going to chase a seller down and beg them to sell me their stuff. If a seller lists something, they should be ready to sell it. But seriously though, if you're buying something used (in this case over $500) and the seller can't get you pics, forget about it.

Even if you change over to Type R cams, you might want to switch over the exhaust springs to the intake side. Don't get Type R springs because they are actually softer than standard B series springs (Type R's have lighter valves).

As for used cams, it's pretty much a gamble, make sure the seller is trust-worthy. Visually, you will never be able to tell the difference between cams... unless they have a stamp (not sure if JUN stamps at an end or something).

I noticed slightly louder sounds with the addition of ITR cams, but nothing significant.

I was faced with the same decision. I am building the b16 in my hatch and it is mostly a daily driver but I want to be able to kick some ass at the drags. I decided to go with the skunk2 stage 1 cams. If you decide to go with the same, you should email me and I will tell you the best place to get them.

Seriously, pics won't do you any good.... I have a pic of cams in my sig, you'd never know what they were if I didn't tell you where they came from. as far as identify what cams they are... the only thing the pics should help in is making sure they are perfect, NO scratches whatsoever.
