First Post...Need help, BAD!
Hello everyone-
I am new to the forum...just heard about it today as a matter of fact. I am a memeber of the R-1 Forum; if you like motorcycles you'll know what I'm talking about.
Anyway, I own a 97 Civic EX totally stock (yes, laugh now!). I bought it brand new and as soon as my extended warranty expired stuff started to go wrong with it.
My check engine light came on this morning. I went to the local Autozone and they ran a diagnostic on it and it came up with 4 different error codes:
P0303 (Cylinder #3 Misfire)
P0304 (Cylinder #4 Misfire)
P1300 (?)
P1399 (?)
Has anyone had any of these problems before? The P303 I had a couple of months ago and the guy at the local "street racer" shop told me that I needed a new cap & rotor. I let him replace it and the problem went away; but now it's back. What can I do??? Is this something that I should be able to fix myself? Is there anything I can check? Anything I should rule out? Or should I just grab my ankles and hope that the mechanic uses KY?

This shows you what the codes are in the 2 digit format. Do you know how to check the codes yourself?

I know how to work on bikes, but cars are too much...so if you ever need help with a bike, let me know. LoL
Check this site to check your own codes: http://www.c-speedracing.com/faq/06.html
Then you can go here to figure out what those codes mean: http://www.c-speedracing.com/faq/05.html
You may also want to reset your ECU before you check the codes. It may just be an error within the ECU and it needs to be reset to cycle the problem out. Check this link to learn how to reset the ECU: http://www.c-speedracing.com/faq/02.html
If you reset it and you still have the problems, post up the codes and we'll see what we can do to help you fix them.
Good luck man!

Okay,
I have the codes; I only got two codes from doing the ECU check myself though.
73 (Cylinder #3 Misfire)
74 (Cylinder #4 Misfire)
What do I do now? Should I replace my plugs and wires? Is there any way I can check to see if I need to replace them?
Here is what I plan on doing:
1- Start the car
2- Pull the plug on Cylinder #3; the car engine should run like ass...I will then put the plug back on and see how the engine runs. If it goes back to normal then there is no misfire; otherwise I will need to replace the plug and wire.
Repeat the procedure for cylinder #4. Does this make any sense whatsoever?
