yes definitly does hold true for any engine. the reason it could possible happen more frequently on a y is because the timing values are much less known than for a z6. ppl run the recommended z6 timing values and are fine, people building y engines are a little more on their own for timing which results in less than perfect tunes. BUT, having less efficient oiling does not help any either so a port and shim on the pump can save you plenty.
