Sport Compact Car did a test on it last year and it didn't add hp or mpg. It actually took away power and mpg. I forget what car it was on but the issue was last year or 2000.

It's fools gold. Just like the Venom 400 module. It pretends to do things for you so the company can make money.

 

OK, first of all, if you don't know what your talking about, don't say anything. My Father bought the Air Tornado. He sen't it back. Heres the reasons. Like the ad promised, he did feel a noticable increase in power (He installed it in a ford expedition v8). However, unlike the ad claimed, he actually LOST mpg. So thats why he sent it back. Now to the amature physicists, please desist in putting out false information m'kay? Yes, it WILL have an effect on airflow, regardless of its restrictvness. Organization of air molecules (adding a pattern to the stream to increase airflow) has been tryed before, and if my memory serves is often used in more specialized "one off" applications (race cars, and the like). however, its just not cost effective for auto manufacturers to put these in every car (gains in horsepower, or mpg are no where near what the manufacturers would have to pay to install them in thousands of vehicles). Just look at the physics of the Tornado. You can't add horse power and gain mpg at the same time, it's almost impossible.

 

ok, why is that impossible? adding horsepower and gaining mpg is quite possible as long as the engine isnt very efficient in the first place. look at the engines of the 70s and 80s. compare them to the engines now, which have higher hp's, lower mpgs, AND are smaller. Its all a matter of efficency.

 

I bought one when they first came out in 96 I beleive, didn't notice anything. Waste of $75 IMO.

 

The theory behind tornado is pretty simple...swirling the air makes it turbulent, which helps the mixture between fuel and air. Combustion is also a lot more efficient in a turbulent flow than a laminar flow, but this for the most part is negated by the valves. So the theory should make for a more efficient engine...

I know a lot of friends with pickups and SUV's with larger displacement engines who do see power gains from using a tornado. This kinda makes sense. Larger displacement engines in SUV's suck up a lot more air, so the Tornado probably has a bigger effect on mixing. Also, Honda's traditionally use MPFI, which for the size of each cylinder may be enough mix the air and fuel thoroulghly so the tornado doesn't do anything extra.

i dont think ANY of these people that posted in this thread have ever used it or even know someone that has.

 

That's ridiculous. More power means it takes less of the percentage of the cars power to acclerate, thus using less fuel.

 

I used it, it's a piece of crap! I got a sticker to prove it. If you buy it, be aware when you send it back you pay for the postage and a restocking fee!
