Default Spun a rod bearing... now what?

On my way back from class one of my intercooler pipes popped off in full boost and the car shut off. I started it back up and heard knock. It got worse as I went so about after a mile I just shut it off and had one hell of a night.. it was awful. But anyway, they were ACL bearings, 12.06 AFR 18* total timing, built B16.

What do I do now? Do I need to replace that rod? I haven't inspected the rods yet..

Tony, Eric, anybody?

Were the clearances checked when installing the bearings?

Pull it apart, assess the damage, and go from there.

Yeah all the bearings were standard clearance so I got ACLs. After some reading it seems like a lot of people spin ACLs, but at the same time everyone uses them so of course there's gonna be stories of failure.

But why would it happen after the pipe blew off? Sudden lean condition?

Properly clearanced bearings should not spin. The people that spin ACLs are usually the ones that don't plastigauge them. In your case, sounds like your oil pump failed. Do you have a oil pressure gauge?

Not sure why it happened at the same time as the pipe blowing off. A lean condition won't kill a rod bearing. My bet is on oil pump.

On start I had 80psi, crusing I had 60, at idle I had 12, when it spun I had about 40.

hard to say until you pull it apart.

How old is your oil, how hot was the motor, get it apart & inspect what needs to be replaced.

pretty shitty tho.

I ran one of my motor's out of gas durring a highway pull one time, & that spun a rod bearing!

I pulled the cams and sparkplugs. There wasn't really any shavings in the head and no signs of detonation on the plugs... I'll continue tear down.

Also, what's considered cam scoring? My saddles, caps, and cams, have and pretty much always had lines on them. So have many other honda heads I've looked at. Not nearly enough to catch on my fingernail.

Why are you pulling everything apart? Just drop the oil pan and remove the rod caps. The head isn't going to tell you much.

If the scratches don't catch your fingernail, I wouldn't worry about them.

Checking to see if any bearing particles messed up anything in the head. The pans next. I'm hoping I can get away with another used crank and a set of bearings. I read some stories and a lot of people replace the rod... Maybe I can have it resurfaced and get a thicker bearing. I'm flat broke till I get my income tax.

Welp, I dropped the pan. Found a wristpin spiral lock in there. Shavings.. #4 rod bearing is gone. Completely absent from where it should be. BUT. The crank has no scoring in it at all... like at all.
