Bror Jace, he was an expert on oils and filters. That guy could go on forever, but it was very useful information. Too bad he hasn't come back...

Well I've always used castrol gtx oil.....from regular 10/30 on my old (now dead) vx engine to the castrol synthetic blend 5/30 on my zc the first 2 oil changes...now I noticed that it burned or used a bit of oil...like a quart in 5k miles....so I decided to use castrol high mileage oil...I'll post what results I get....it feels smoother on this 11 or 12 year motor I got.....it only has 45k on it but I though the additvies on the HM oil might condition the seals etc etc...

sorry for bumpin an old thread but....... would high mileage oil stop an oil leak? I think the cause of my leak is the rear main seal and i hear it's a bitch to replace. So would high mileage oil help?

Not really. Once the rear main starts leaking, it won't stop until you replace it.

I used to use Valvoline MaxLife in my old car, never had any problems but never saw any gains either.

I use Mobil1 5w-30 now, change every 3000 miles.

I use Mobil 1 and change it about every 6 thousand I think I'm gonna shorten that to about 4 though it gets a little dark at 6.
