Default Timing belt install on 94 civic ex help/question

hey guys, i did my timing belt on my 95 gsr at 96k and it went well...now its time to do it on my 94 civic. it has 150k on it

question is should this be easier since there is only one cam? the civic is the Ex model so it does have vtec but its SOHC...not DOHC like my teg.

i looked on ebay and found the belt, gaskets, and pump for about $90 shipped. that sound about right? and type of pump i should stay away from...ebay fakers ya know.

ALSO, when i did my teg i had a print out from a link from TI.net
any good links for my civic guys?

thanks!

go to the dealership and get your pump/belt. Trust me, you will thank me later when your re-man water pump shits and your belt from "Handa" shreds

Just go to any autoparts store, get an aftermarket OEM replacement. The waterpump will cost you $100 plus timing belt.

really? when I did mine I remember OEM stuff only being like 40-50 bucks more than what I found on ebay/autozone/etc.

from ebay i can get the pump, belt, pulley, cam seal, spark plug seals and valve cover seals for 90 shipped.

dealer wants (WITH MY DISCOUNT OF 20%) 150 for the pump pulley and belt.

i bought the complete set off ebay last time for my GSR and everything is running fine. but i heard of some bad brand name son there.

you guys have any links i can print out that will walk me through the install?

There is a reaon it's cheaper - usually more inferior made products. Made in China with lead and formaldehyde. So for $60 more you can have peace of mind knowing your parts are OEM or fork out $90 and pray that next week your engine doesn't seize with those $90 parts you put on your car from Ebay and then having to fork out $500-1000 for a new engine where you could have spent the extra $60.

I purchased some ebay corners for my 93 Civic Si and you can tell the quality difference between the Ebay ones and stock or even a reputable store one. The plastic is thinner, and more hollow sounding.

The couple experiences I've had with ordering parts off ebay didn't go bad at all but I would agree that it's one thing to order something like taillights, corners, or even an ignition coil off of ebay, but quite another when it's something that can end up costing you a lot more money in the long run.

Besides, it's just wrong to risk ruining a Honda engine, whatever the model, just so you can save a little money.

You might have better luck ordering the oem parts online(or at least oem-equivalent from a reputable company).
On most sites, with the parts you'll need, you won't have to pay shipping if ordered together.

This is a site I've used, the interface for choosing your car isn't the most organized so I did that part for you. I guessed 4dr. but the parts you need will be the same regardless of body type.

First iff, I agree with what was said by the other members, get OEM and stop trying to defend the shi**y parts on EBAY...
Do it right or just get rid of your car, please!

Second, you really should get the Honda manual for the car, or a Helms/Chilton which will guide you through the process...
SOHCs are easier than DOHCs but if you are new to it then chances are you will not time it right, leading to bent valves, etc.

There are places to get the manuals online for free or just buy a hard copy for yourself from an auto parts store.

It's not a DIY... It is a repair procedure. DIY's are for stuff that is not covered in the manuals, such as LS/VTEC conversions, etc.
