You're definitely right about the hotter part. When I took out the bad bulb yesterday, the glass had actually bubbled outward in one spot...It must have gotten that hot that it actually started melting the glass of the bulb Thats probably why they don't last as long, right?

I'm planning on possibly getting silverstars and matching them up with a nice set of PIAA ion crystal (amber) foglights.

(I have a similar setup on the car now - hiper ind. headlights and crappy amber foglights. The amber provides really nice contrast with the white/blue color of the headlights. In terms of light colors, my current set up (and the one I plan on doing next) will be similar to the headlight/foglight set up on the new Acura CL and TL)

Even if I do see a decrease in visablity in rain/snow due to the silverstars, the PIAAs should more than make up for it. How do you think this setup would be? Pretty good, right?

Double the wattage doesn't mean double the lighting.

Also, those claims by PIAA and other blue bulb companies about how their 60/55w bulb is equal to the output of a 120/100w bulb is bogus...

One factor is that with such a thick tint, the company needs a high wattage bulb to have even some kind of useable light. Basically, stay away from high wattage bulbs.

if you have hyper whites, super plasmas etc. the yellow foglights help out a lot. i had Piaa Super plasmas not too long ago, and now i have some Lumiko hyper whites. by themselves the light output is crappy, but the yellow foglights help out a lot. when i had stock lights and Cool Blues (both of which have good output), when i turn on the fogs it's hard to notice them since the headlights light up the road so good. with the hyper whites/plasmas, when i turn on the fogs it's easy to notice the increase in light.
