Bleed the system of air. Check your cap (if your overflow is full to the top your cap is bad. Your thermostat may be stuck open. Any smoke?

You can bleed the system by taking the cap off and running the car at idle for about 15 min. Start this procedure with the engine cold. Some times you will get a little overflow. WATCH YOU TEMP GAUGE DO NOT LET IT OVER HEAT. Let the engine cool top of the fluid replace the cap.

Thy also make a nice funnel for this to help with the overflow and air in the system.

You can probably find one at your local car parts store.

Yes if thy go bad you overflow tank will fill up and maybe overflow at times. Thy are cheap and one of the leading problems in a cooling system. Thy hold pressure on the cooling system raising the boiling point of coolant (vapor will not cool anything). Works on the same principles as a pressure cooker.

I finally found out my cooling system problem (for the moment). On Saturday night I took apart everything:
1) upper hose
2) lower hose
3) thermostat
4) completely drained the coolant from the raditator
5) flushed the whole system for like 10 mins.
6) flushed out all the hoses, thermostat, and the coolant overflow bottle (had lots of gunk in it)
7) reattached everything
8) filled the overflow bottle to min
9) filled the radiator to the neck
10) started the car and then jacked up the front so the nose was pointed up (this tip was given to me by one of my friends since air goes up)
11) I ran the can at idle for 30 mins
12) and kept coming out when I heard the fans turn on since then the thermostat opens up at the same time
13) I probably used up about 1/4-1/2 gallon of Honda coolant

Went to an autocross Sunday morning and had no overheating problems. Weird.

Did he pressure test the cap that is the only true way to see if the cap is failing. A good indication of a failed cap is you overflow tank will be full (above max line with out you adding fluid).

Got an idea when you turn on your AC system are both your fans running?????

Next time crank the heater/blower to full blast if it is still rising than yes shut it off, but if you just shut it off, the water pump is no longer circulating coolant so you are super saturating the motor with heat that it can't get rid of easily. When you crank the blower it helps get some of that heat out via the heat exchange in the heater core.

The only thing the autozone guy did was take the cap off and look at it. And yes I noticed the overflow tank was at the max line and a little above sometimes and then when the car starts to get hot the tank is completley empty. And I checked the fans and they are both working right.
