Legal B series?-?-?
I was wondering if it is possible to make a B16 or a b18 legal in a civic do u have to get the usdm motor. i was wondering this bc i am moving to sd and i heard the car regulations down there are pretty harsh so any info would help.
it all depends on how they qualify you "legality." if they use the obd computer link to check emissions then you are pretty much hosed if you bought the jdm engine since it does not use the same emissions hardware and software as we do stateside. however, if they test tailpipe emissions then it is usually no issue what motor is in the car...it just has to pass emissions for that vehicle make, model, year etc.
check with the local motor vehicle dept on what method they use....then plan accordingly.

r u talking about san diego thats where im from so let me know
you need a usdm motor the same year or newer as your car. then you need to have all the original emissions equipment hooked up and working with no CEL's. then you can take it to be bar'ed. once it's bar'ed and you have the sticker to prove it, then it's legal. at least that's how it is with my b18c1 swapped 95 coupe.
ight thanks man im glad to hear from someone from down there bc i wanted to know for sure what the deal was what can u get away with down there like can u get away with exhaust or anything? pacific beach area is where ive been planning but thats not for surtain. where is all the racing at are there any canyons near there
