Honda Del Sol -92 Gearbox oil
Hi, i'm a new Honda's owner --- bought a del sol to my girlfriend
But there is a problem with gearbox, when the oil is gold(in the morning) the shifting is rough...(she has to shift gears with both hands
) And I decided to change the oil, I was advised to use synthetic oil 75w90 GL5 and i bought a valvoline's oil. but now i heard that other oils are bad to the gearbox!? Is it correct that my valvoline 75w90 GL5 can break my gearbox??
help needed...

but why not?? i don't know why but i'm a little suspicious about that "ONLY honda mtf" thing... What can happen with my fully synthetic oil?
And other question, the guy from who i bought my crx used only 0w30 oil in engine, but he sayd also, that running engine in high rpm (at v-tec zone) burns oil? is it normal? Or is that 0w30 oil too "liquid" (sry about my english
)

it's common for Honda engines to burn a little oil, especially vtec engines. if you burn more than 1quart in 1,000mi then it's time to worry.
Use only Honda MTF in a Honda manual transmission. Your owners manual will state to use 10w30 sf/sg. That was correct at the time your car was made. However the detergents have changed and you will now only find sj grad oil. The only place I know of to get the proper oil is Honda MTF from a Honda dealer. DO NOT use 70w90 gear lube it is way too thick.
All machines are designed to be used with a certain lubricant that is why manufacturers recommend those lubricants.

:eek4:I had my manual trans oil changed about 5k miles ago and I believe they put 10w30 in it. Is it really bad to have that in there instead of the Honda fluid? They said according to their books that it was OK to use motor oil(same as in my manual).
I'm worried that because the detergents of the new oil are different(which never even crossed my mind) that it's gonna mess up my transmission, which I canNOT afford.

don't panic. from what I've read the change in detergents mostly just makes it wear out faster. I've also still read of people continuing to use 10w30 in d-series trannies without trouble. I would just pick up some Honda MTF when you can and change it.
yeah I was in a pinch and used the recomended motor oil in my DX, never bothered to change it and its benn fine for a coupoe years now. If you have the chance use the Honda MTF or a lot of people (myself included) swear by GM's synchromesh.
The best transmission fluid is OEM Honda MTF. Synthetics (especially on older motors/transmissions) can lead to problems.
