it's common for Honda engines to burn a little oil, especially vtec engines. if you burn more than 1quart in 1,000mi then it's time to worry.

Use only Honda MTF in a Honda manual transmission. Your owners manual will state to use 10w30 sf/sg. That was correct at the time your car was made. However the detergents have changed and you will now only find sj grad oil. The only place I know of to get the proper oil is Honda MTF from a Honda dealer. DO NOT use 70w90 gear lube it is way too thick.

All machines are designed to be used with a certain lubricant that is why manufacturers recommend those lubricants.
