Default My New Downpipe!

Hey guys.. not sure if you remember but i've had a huge restriction in my exhaust due to space & some fundage.. but it blew apart when i was in VA racing my car.. so i've taken this time to fix it the way i wanted it origionally.

This is what happened:

This is what we did so i could complete my 7hr drive home!

Now that i've had a little time to work on it: It looks like this!
Nice 3 Inch Mandrel Bends!

As a Referance: 3 inch Mandrel bend "U"'s can be purchased from your local Advance Auto Parts store. They are next to impossible to find the part number and have them ordered, so here is the part number.
SKU: 18380352
MFG#:42323

My Referance:
DynoMax Mandrel Bends:
3in. : 42323
2.5in. : 42322

Nice.

Those welds on the first pipe look like they were done by a kid with down's syndrome. h:

That corrugated tubing looks like it came off someone's stove or dryer

Much better job on the "replacement" ... I'm sure that'll flow better than that sharp 90 in the old pipe.

Joo still need a flex section. And a flange on the pipe somewhere where you can maybe bolt the lower-half of the pipe to maybe your tranny or oil pan would help, too. The more you secure your downpipe, the longer it will last.

On a DSM, there's a flange on teh exhaust that bolts to the block so that the weight of the exhaust and the torque of the motor doesn't bend and stress the exhaust pipes causing them to break. The flex section is between this flange and the rest of the exhaust ("b-pipe"). On DSMs where the builder chooses not to bolt this down, they frequently find their turbo flange bolts backing out within less than an oil change.

You already know the necessity of the flex section so I won't preach to the choir there... 3" is gonna be awesome where it comes to your spool time and that already looks like a HUGE improvement in the flow category. Nice job!

I know my cuz's welder sucks donkey balls, but it sure comes through in a pinch! :goodjob:

is that like a 2.75" peice with a 3" slid over it by the flange? I had to take a peice of 3" pipe, cut a V in it and put it in a vice and bend it into a cone that went from 2.5" to 3" then weld the 3" mendrels to that.

naa, it was 2.5 & i flared it out to almost 3, slid the 3inch over it & welded away.
