MPG Engine swap: VX into a DX chassis
I was wondering what would be involved in doing a DX-VX swap, is it a simple plug & play or would there be a whole lot of rewiring to do? I know I might have to wire for v-tec, but what else? I know it's an odd swap but finding a used civic vx that hasn't been to the B18x swap butcher is near impossible.

i got a vx (D15z1) in my 4dr DX AND LOVE THE MPG!!!!!!!!!!
I have gotten 375 miles on a tank. It was pretty much just plug'n play. Vtec pulls like a b-series but I hardly use vtec anyway. Just add some wires for vtec solenoid and ur good to go. oh and you need a p28 ecu

A P28 is not going to extract the maximum potential from a D15Z1... not anywhere close. The D16Z6 and D15Z1 are more different then the average Joe would think.
To be honest, if you want plug-and-play MPG, use a CX engine... you can get them for free if you look around.
The VX engine uses a wideband five wire O2 sensor and EGR that will require an obnoxious rewire job, nevermind the 12/16 valve switching VTEC-E system. The CX D15B7 runs on a simple one wire O2 sensor and a basic 8 valve head that pulls similar fuel milage.

what year? my stock DX will get 400-430 on the highway. I've always wondered about doing this or at least the head swap.
If you don't use the ECU wouldn't you just have an 8-valve head that appartenly gets worse MPG than a z6?

THese are waters that u do not want to swim in. If u do find a motor, most likley they wont have EGR solenoids, which u might be able to find at a junk yard, but most likely not. U need the VX ecu, to run the EGR and the VTEC-E, if u run the CX ecu u will lose the goods that the VX motor will offer. Like Kai said just go with the CX motor, I have driven both and there is not that much of a difference.

I think I may have found a decent civic vx hatch not too far from me, gonna check it out. I currently own a 2004 VW golf tdi getting combined 43.5mpg driving 75-80mph highway, grandma in the city. I wanna get rid of the payment.

I absolutely think it's gonna be slow compared to the golf, but if I have to sacrifice speed for a house I'm more than willing...equity = new carh:
