Knowing as I do that a third pair of oxygen sensors will not solve the problem, I'm in a bind. Until this fiasco, my Honda gave me not one problem.

Hey, I'd buy the VSS for $100 IF I KNEW IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. Online forums say there is a connection between it and the speedometer that doesn't work any more. Is there a test the mechanic could run before laying out more money?

Hmmm um u could cut the wire to the check engine light on the cluster.

Wow, I believe the common theme in this thread is "ripped off".

Go here: https://www.honda-acura.net/forums/s...d.php?t=238067
Check your own CEL and report the code(s) back to this thread.

A VSS has nothing to do with the cat(s). It's exactly what you said it is, a vehicle speed sensor. It reports the speed that the gear on the VSS is spinning based on the connection it makes to the transmission and sends the electrical signal to the ECU to be calculated and, subsequently, sent to the speedometer to report to you what your speed is. If your speedometer is the only thing not working in your gauge cluster, it's likely the VSS that's either unplugged or no longer working, which is not an uncommon problem. Go to www.sohfast.com to get another one if you thing yours is busted.

As for the rest of your problems, if you've really spent that much at Honda and they haven't fixed your problem, I'd be screaming at a manager. They're simply poking at your car trying to figure it out all the while making you pay for their little experiments. That's crap and quite honestly fraudulent, imo.

Best course of action to this point is to figure out the two digit code using the links on the page I gave you above and let us know what they are. hih

Get a voltmeter and start probing your harness. There's most likely a wiring fault. If you don't know how or don't have the patience to learn, then go to yet a third and more competent mechanic that doesn't work for Honda. Get the proper diagnosis, and then have the 1st mechanic give you your old parts back and refund your money.

The o2 sensor is tied into many other sensors in your engine bay on the same circuits. Your TPS, IAT, coolant temp sensor, signals... I think there's another one. Your injectors and your o2 sensor share a common ground. I think your harness is damaged somewhere.

key words for everyone that reads this thread.

I'd find a new shop.... if you're getting work done at the dealership, raise hell with the manager. sometimes thats the only way things can get done. but once you do, as long as you're in the right, you'll be treated like a VIP

pay by credit card, then call the cc company and explain the whole thing with paper work. they will most likely look into the problem and either not pay dealer or have them fix it right. then there is the attorney general of course. but anyway is your choice. after all there could be more claims against this dealer or should i say stealership.

American Express will refund your money if you and they feel that you have been truly ripped off. Would they do that to a Honda Dealer?? No.
