Default NEED ADVICE!!! on Transmission Maintenance

I am a first time Honda owner, I have a 2000 Honda Civic with an automatic transmission, I have 48,000 miles on it and when I got an oil change a few weeks ago, the guy there told me I should get the transmission fluid changed as well. He said I need to do it now or before 60,000 miles or don't bother having it done. Is this just a sales pitch or ????

Please help me understand what should be done. Thanks in advance!

You should do it before 60,000 if your aggresive. If not then just wait till ya just about hit 60,000. Don't let them do it though it'll cost to much, just go get the fluid (From HONDA) and do it yourself. it's only 2 plugs one to drain one to fill and there fairly easy to get to. Id spend the money on some ramps though.

i've read to do drain and refill about multiple times since the first time wont get rid of all the old fluid.

also to never flush a honda transmission.

does the civic trans have a filter? if so, you need to replace that too.

there is no filter for the transmission.

btw it only cost me $25.00 bucks for transmission fluid change in a HONDA dealer. So it is not that expensive!

one-third flush is better then nothing flushed. if you must....drain it best you can....drive around for ten miles...drain it best you can. least you get rid of most the particles.

also to never flush a honda transmission.

who told you that?

i've done many searches on h-t and alot of members recommend not to flush the transmission as it sends the shavings back into gear.
