Default When replacing wheels...

I want to put a set of 16 inch alloys on my 96 EX coupe, what tire size should I be looking for to keep the overall diameter the same.

Also, my cars stock wheels are 14x5, is it ok to have a wider and taller tire, because I have never seen 16x5's before (and it would probably look retarded). I just don't want to run into any problems, as this is my daily driver.

Also, I want to put in strut bars, but was told that rear-strut bars are illegal if you have passengers in the back seat (as well as being dangerous). Is this true for all of them?

Also, any advice/links to sites with good prices would be much appreciated.

Why would u want 16" rims and tires be the same as your stock 14" rims and tires. thats 2 inch bigger rims which will mean less tire width.

if u change the rims size u going to have to changed your tires width!!

u might want to check out this thread:

Upsizing is the way to go. So you would need 16x7" with 205/45x16" tires to keep your speedo and odometer accurate. Actually depending on what your stock tire size is you might need 205/40x16".

As for the rear strut bar it's not illegal to have it with passengers. The strut bar will be in the trunk area and will not affect your rear seat passengers. A roll bar would be illegal to have with passengers AND dangerous also.

^agreed. when you look for a strut bar/s dont look at the ones that have a pivoting mounting point. look for ones that have a solid mounting point like a type r style or a gsr style. those are just examples of the ones with solid points. also, the neuspeed one is great.

Do I run the risk of rub with wider tires though?

Forgot to mention tire width and offset has alot to do with if you will rub or not.

for any 7" wide wheel you should get a 41-44mm offset wheel. 205 is about as wide as you want to go unless you get 215/40x16" or maybe 225/40x16" but those will throw off your speedo and odometer.

In my 10 years experience with wheels and tires on Civics you can do a 16x7.5" wheel but it will rub. Sometimes lightly sometimes really bad.

See the problem with most wheel companies is that one company's 40mm offset might be 38mm and another will be 42mm. There's no Quality Control really in measurements. I had a TSW wheel that was 17x7" and said 40mm on the wheel. With Toyo FZ4 205/40x17" tires it would rub.

Then I got another wheel from TSW that was also 17x7" and 40mm offset and same tires on it and it didn't rub. I didn't change any suspension components or alignment.

so you are basically saying that if you dont want the tires to rub on a civic u should put 16X7" wheels just to be in the safe side, right?
