It's just like throwing a 93 d16z SOHC Vtec motor into a 93 DX Chassis..it's still consider a civic motor.. you just have to have all the emmissions hooked up though. A few of my buddies did it and it passed. one of my buddies car had a (Del Sol) b16 USDM obd1 swap into his 92 dx hatch and we got it smogged w/out having it taken to the state ref's for inspections. Another had a 94 LS integra chassis and threw in a 95 gsr swap w/ all emmissions and it passed as well w/out state ref invovled.

The smog station didn't know what he was looking for. If the engine did not come with the car from the factory, it will need to be inspected by the referee to make it legal. In your cases, the engines were similar to the chassis that it normally came in. Technically all "engine change" swaps are required to be referee'd.

A 96 or newer (car) motor with all smog equipment. You can go prelude, integra, civic whatever as long as its car and has all the smog equipment. Try to get it as close to stock as possible and after you get it reffed then do as you wish with it.

well i like the b16 but i cant get a 96, the b18b is a few extra hundred dollars for not as much horses. and to get 170 hp i would have to go with the b18c which is a little bit out of my range. is there a place i can get one in cali for cheaper?

Well I have seen it done in person, I just heard that my buddies did it and passed. Dont know if they did it the illegal way or not. But I could be wrong, dont quote me on that though.

But here's my question.... If you had a 92 civic si,dx,cx,vx..etc..etc.. and you were to swap in a 95 ex si SOHC motor...put everything to OEM Spec to pass smog!!! Would you have to take that swap to a state ref to have them inspect that as well? I personally did that a few times and it passed smog. So why is it that you cant do that to a del sol b16 obd1 motor. I mean literally a civic motor is still a civic motor? It still came out of a civic and not integra!!!

How about a B18b from a 96-2001 teg ls? About 800-1500 bucks.
